SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego County Citizens Against
Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) awarded scholarships to two high school
students at the Town and Country Hotel & Convention Center on
June 19th.
|
The scholarship essay contest was open to junior and senior high school students throughout San Diego County. The essay topic this year was: “Does Lawsuit Abuse Adversely Impact Your Family, Consumers and/or Your Community?”
KOGO- AM talk show host Roger Hedgecock and George Coles, CALA Vice Chairman presented the students with their scholarships at a special Luncheon which featured Ruben Barrales, President of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce as the Keynote Speaker, John Mattes, Fox 6 News Investigative Reporter as a special guest speaker and Roger Hedgecock as Master of Ceremonies.
“Part of CALA’s mission is to increase public awareness of the harmful consequences of lawsuit abuse and encourage personal responsibility,” said CALA President, Lorie Zapf. “Our county wide Scholarship Essay Contest is a very important part of our education outreach program.”
Both young ladies demonstrated that CALA’s efforts are effective in educating our youth about the adverse effects of abusive, "shakedown" lawsuits as an economic and consumer issue. By raising the profile of lawsuit abuse, we believe there will be a change in public understanding, attitude and behavior that will eventually result in restoring predictability and fairness to our legal system.
CALA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots, public education organization dedicated to serving as a watchdog over the legal system and those who would seek to abuse it for undeserved gain. Nearly 10,000 San Diego residents are CALA supporters.
