Essay Topic:
DOES
JURY SERVICE HELP STOP LAWSUIT ABUSE?
ESSAY

Rules of Contest:

Essays must be 3-5 pages in
length, typed using 12 point font, double-spaced & must include an
index/bibliography of all web sites, source materials and/or quotes used.

Essay may include any
of the following discussion points: 1) Just what is lawsuit abuse?
2) Does lawsuit abuse undermine individual responsibility?
3)
Does jury service have any effect on stopping lawsuit abuse? If so,
how? If not, why?
Note: This essay must address civil lawsuits, not criminal matters.

Entries must be postmarked no
later than January 30, 2004 and mailed to:
CALA Essay/Scholarship Contest, 1761 Hotel Circle South, Suite 120, San
Diego, CA92108.

All entries must be submitted
with a separate cover sheet that includes: Student Name, address, phone
number, e-mail address, name of high school, address & phone number,
high school fax number and name of teacher or counselor who encouraged your
participation.
DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON THE ESSAYS- attach a cover sheet to each copy of
the essay-ONLY!

Please submit eight copies
of your essay.

All essays received will
become the property of S.D. County CALA, and may be used for promotion
and/or public education purposes at the discretion of the CALA President and
Board of Directors. Your name and likeness may be used for promotion
purposes.

San Diego County Citizens
Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) will announce scholarship winners by June 30,
2004. Cash Awards will be presented at the GALA LUNCHEON in June or July
2004
(actual date to be announced). Essay winners must be present to claim their Cash Prizes.

Family members of the CALA
BOARD OF DIRECTORS and CONTEST JUDGES are not eligible.
