Essay Topic:
Does Lawsuit Abuse Undermine
Principles of Individual Responsibility?

Rules of Contest:
-
The
contest is open to ANY ability level high school student.
The essayist is NOT required to be college
bound!
-
Essay must be 3-5 pages
in
length, using 12 point font, typed and double-spaced.
-
Essay must include the
following criteria:
-
Define
lawsuit abuse;
-
Determine if
lawsuit abuse undermines principles of individual responsibility
(give examples); and
-
Discuss how
frivolous lawsuits affect our economy.
Note:
This
essay should address civil lawsuits, not criminal matters.

Entries must be
postmarked no later than February 22, 2002 and mailed to:

All entries must be
submitted with a separate cover sheet that includes:

Student name,
address, phone number, fax number (if any) & e-mail
address.

Name, address,
phone and fax number of your high school, and name of a teacher or
counselor who encouraged your participation.

Do
not put your name on your essay -- only attach cover sheet to each
copy.
-
Please
submit
six copies of
your essay.

All essays will become
the property of San Diego County CALA, and may be used for promotion
and/or public education purposes at the discretion of the CALA
President. Also, your name and likeness (photo) may be used if
you win a prize.

San Diego County CALA
will announce scholarship winners by May 30, 2002. Cash awards will be
presented at a gala luncheon on June 7, 2002.

Family members of the
CALA Board of Directors and Contest Judges are not eligible to
participate.
