Rules of Contest:
- Essay must be 3-5 pages in
length, typed and double-spaced.

Essay must include the
following criteria:

1) Give your
definition of lawsuit abuse;
-
2) Determine if
lawsuit abuse undermines principles of individual responsibility
(give examples); and
-
3) Discuss how
frivolous lawsuits affect our economy.
Note: This
essay addresses civil lawsuits, not criminal matters.

Entries must be
postmarked no later than February 28, 2001 and mailed to:

All entries must be
submitted with a separate cover sheet that includes:

Name, address,
phone and fax number of your high school, and name of a teacher or
counselor who encouraged your participation.
- Please submit five copies of
your essay.

All essays will become
the property of San Diego County CALA, and may be used for promotion
and/or public education purposes at the discretion of the CALA
Executive Director.

San Diego County CALA
will announce scholarship winners in May, 2001 Cash awards will be
presented at a gala luncheon in May or June, 2001 (date to be
announced).

Family members of the
CALA Board of Directors and Contest Judges are not eligible to
participate.
- This essay is open to any
ability level student and the essayist is NOT required to be college
bound!
