2000 Essay Contest Rules
(San Diego County Only)

Cash Prizes: $1000, $500 & $250

This essay is open to any ability level student and the essayist is NOT required to be college bound!

San Diego County Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) is sponsoring an essay contest open to all San Diego County high school seniors. Prizes/scholarships in the amounts of $1000, $500 and $250 will be awarded to the top finalists selected in this countywide competition. Additional cash awards may be awarded depending on merit.

Essay topic: "Do abusive lawsuits undermine principles of individual responsibility?"

All senior high school students are eligible to participate in this contest. We encourage all students to participate because the award money is available not only to college prep and advanced placement students, but also to elective, industrial arts and R.O.P. students. The essay is open to any ability level student and the essayist is not required to be college bound!

Key points to remember: Essays must be 3-5 pages in length, typed and double-spaced. Entries must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2000.

CALA is a nonprofit, bipartisan, grassroots, public education organization dedicated to educating consumers about the human and financial costs of lawsuit abuse and other issues affecting our civil justice system. In addition, we encourage jury service.

For additional information, call the CALA Executive Director at (619) 295-6059.
